A Change of Pace: How I Review Wines

On my wine tasting journey, I’ve relied upon traditional methods of evaluation such as numerical ratings. Most of us love numbers. They’re easy to comprehend. However, as tempting as it may be to give number ratings, it isn’t a reliable metric. Everyone’s taste buds are physiologically unique, just as people prefer different foods. Of course, there are objectively high-quality wines, the ones I will share with you here! I want to tell the stories of these winemakers, culture, and traditions. That’s why I won’t rely on numerical ratings to evaluate wines in my blog posts.

The precursor to this is that all of the wines I review here, I thoroughly enjoy and recommend. Behind the scenes, there are many more wines that I do not write up because life is too short to go on a rant about bad or uninteresting wine.

The focus of this blog is to provide fun and digestible content for people like me who are passionate about German wine and culture. Every wine lover knows that there’s so much more behind the bottle, that the wine is only one dimension of an immensely rich topic. I hope to dive deeper and bring us closer to understanding the art of winemaking as well. At Brauner Meyer Wine, I also write with the perspective of Pfalz resident and longtime friend Nicolai Brauner. He provides us with immeasurable insights on German culture and what they think of their own wine! Prost Nicolai.
